Chrysanthemum - queen of autumn

Chrysanthemums are a flower that we most associate with late summer and autumn here in Sweden. It is also an incredibly popular flower, both in the garden but also as a cut flower at our florists.

Care for your chrysanthemum

Potted chrysanthemums should be watered regularly to avoid drying out. It wilts quickly and easily loses its petals if not properly cared for. It wants to stand bright, but not exposed to direct sunlight all the time.

As a cut flower

As a cut flower, you care for it in the same way as most other cut flowers. Fresh cuts, fresh water, and be careful to clear away leaves that fall below the water line, so that bacteria does not thrive in the water. Nutrients in the water plus changing to fresh water every day or two increases the shelf life, and keeping the vase cooler overnight also extends the shelf life. Chrysanthemums in a vase can last several weeks if you take care of them properly.
