Anemones - facts and care advice

Anemones are a beloved cut flower that is sold in flower shops mainly during winter and spring-winter. When buying anemones, you should choose specimens where the buds are just starting to show their color. The flowers are quite sensitive to shocks and you should therefore be careful when transporting your anemones home.

This is how you care for your Anemones

Anemones should be cut before they are put in a vase, just like other cut flowers. They are placed in cold water, but do not need any nutrition. Remember to remove leaves that end up below the water line to prevent bacterial growth from damaging the flowers. The shelf life is approximately up to one week.

Extend shelf life

You can extend the shelf life by placing the anemones in a cool place. Just enough light causes the color to deepen, but too much light and heat causes it to break out too quickly and therefore bloom over much faster. It is of course possible to grow bouquet anemones as well. They can overwinter in the southern parts of the country provided they are placed in a sheltered, warm and sunny location. Or they work well as annuals or planting plants.
